How to Brew Coffee: For Normal People

Drip Brew

1.      Measure out appropriate amount of beans/grounds. Use 15g per 8oz, or approximately 4 tablespoons per 8oz. Adjust this ratio as necessary for your personal taste. If using beans, grind them to a medium grind if your brewer has a flat filter bottom and medium-fine if your brewer has a cone shaped filter.

2.      Add grounds to appropriate filter, place in into machine. Add pre-brew spices, or a cinnamon stick or salt as desired.

3.      Swivel basket into place. Fill reservoir with clean water. Turn machine on.

4.      When coffee is done brewing, turn off the machine to avoid burning the coffee.

5.      Serve and enjoy! Remember to clean the coffee pot regularly.

French Press

1.      Bring water to boil in kettle. Remove from heat.

2.      Measure our appropriate amount of beans/grounds. Use 15g per 8oz, or approximately 4 tablespoons per 8oz. Adjust this ratio as necessary for your personal taste. If using beans, grind to a coarse grind.

3.      Add grounds to French Press. Once water is between 195F-205F, add water to French Press.

4.      Let brew for about 4 minutes. Slowly plunge press to remove grounds from coffee.

5.      Serve and enjoy! Do not leave coffee in the press if you plan on drinking it as it will become bitter.

Pour Over

1.      Bring water to boil in kettle. Remove from heat.

2.      Measure our appropriate amount of beans/grounds. Use 15g per 8oz, or approximately 4 tablespoons per 8oz. Adjust this ratio as necessary for your personal taste. If using beans, grind to a medium-fine grind.

3.      Put filter in brewer, rinse with hot water. Dispose of rinsing water.

4.      Add grounds to filter. Using water between 195F-205F, pour water over grounds to completely saturate the grounds, pouring from the center of the grounds to the outside. Stop pouring once it starts to drip and allow grounds to saturate.

5.      Slowly pour in remaining water, keeping dripper ½ to ¾ full. Expect this to take up to 5 minutes.

6.      Remove filter, serve and enjoy!

Cold Brew

1.      Measure our appropriate amount of beans/grounds. Use 1oz per 8oz, or approximately 4 tablespoons per 8oz. Adjust this ratio as necessary for your personal taste. If using beans, grind to a coarse or extra coarse grind.

2.      Add grounds and water to jar. Stir well.

3.      Place jar in fridge for 12 – 20 hours.

4.      When brewing is complete, slowly strain coffee out from grounds. You can use a cheesecloth and a strainer over the mouth of the jar as you pour the coffee into another container (slowly).

5.      Pour half a glass of coffee over ice and top with filtered water. You can drink the cold brew without cutting it with water, but it can be quite strong.

6.      Serve and enjoy! The strained coffee can last in your fridge for about 2 weeks.
